Local Public Education

One of the five social issues to be addressed by FCC Norman and Its Social Justice Committee

Public education in America is designed to provide a free education to all children in the country and is focused on a core curriculum that allows for success as an adult in work, attaining higher education, and participating in democracy. Supported by taxes through legislation, educational quality varies by state. Currently, the State of Oklahoma public schools rank last or in the bottom five when examined for expenditure per pupil, test results, or other factors. Local schools, poorly financed, are also currently threatened by a State Superintendent of Schools who is attacking standard curricula, teacher practices, and local control. We see a need locally to support teacher morale, aid in providing supplies, and voice our concerns to both the school board and administration of the Norman Public Schools.
