Women’s Health & Safety
One of the five social issues to be addressed by FCC Norman and its Social Justice Committee
According to recent analyses, support for Women’s Health and Safety in the State of Oklahoma ranked last out of 50 states (Wallet Hub 2025; US News & World Report 2024). Oklahoma, historically, has not treated its women well, incarcerating them at high levels, murdering them at high levels, and providing poor health care services as well. Oklahoma has the highest rate of domestic violence in the United States. The Supreme Court overturn of Roe v. Wade (2022) has resulted in repressive state legislation. Because women (and their children) in danger are among the most vulnerable members of our community, we recognize our responsibility to support local organizations which help them, and to promote a social climate which values all genders equally.
